School Profile - Glenallen School

michaelcoleOn behalf of all Glenallen staff, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Glenallen School website.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri People as the traditional carers for the land where Glenallen School is located and pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

We appreciate the beauty of the land and nature which surrounds us and wish to acknowledge the Wurundjeri and Bunurong lands where many of our students live.

This website will enable you to gain an understanding of Glenallen School and to acquaint you with the wide range of services and programs available.

Here at Glenallen we strive to be a world’s best practice specialist school providing innovation and excellence in teaching and learning. The values of respect, learning, communication and teamwork underpin all that we do.

We recognise the very important role that the parents and carers play in helping us to provide an optimum learning environment where children can develop to their highest potential: physically, socially and intellectually.

Our homeroom teams consist of teachers, therapists and aides who continually monitor student achievement and through the Student Support Group (SSG), we encourage and value the input of parents.

About Us

The school caters for students with physical disabilities, severe health impairments while providing learning programs for students with a broad range of intellectual abilities. Current students have complex needs and often multiple disabilities.

We are committed to providing a child safe, secure and stimulating learning environment where children and young people feel safe and their rights are considered when decisions are made that affect their lives.
Students can reach their full educational potential only when they are happy, healthy and safe, and when there is a positive school culture to engage and support them in their learning.

Transdisciplinary teams including teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists work together to plan, implement and evaluate individual student focused learning programs. Other support staff include a music therapist, nurses, a community wellbeing officer, education support staff and personal care assistants.

Our aim is to provide for the development of each student intellectually, socially, physically and emotionally. Individual educational and therapeutic programs are designed to promote student achievement as well as maximising independence in functional activities of daily living. Each student is encouraged to be an active participant in their individual learning program.

The programs of, and teachings in, Glenallen School supports and promotes the principles and practices of Australian democracy, including a commitment to:

  • An elected government
  • The rule of law
  • Equal rights for all before the law
  • Freedom of religion
  • Freedom of speech and association
  • The values of openness and acceptance of differences and diversity
  • The safety of children

Statements that affirm the school’s principles are found in our school values, policies and handbooks.
